“I have always focused on making people around me successful,” says Kelly Pepper, the CEO of Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO). “I feel like that’s my calling. It’s a strength of mine.” At the start of her career, she was drawn to the arts and culture industry because of her love for theatre, opera, and live music performance. It was there that she first recognized and applied her passion for developing others.

Driven by her deep love for the state and its people, Liz Moore works as the Executive Director of Montana Nonprofit Association (MNA). Growing up, she lived on a ranch in eastern Montana and continually returned to her home state, even after moving away as a teenager.

If you’re looking to grow in nonprofit leadership, nonprofit conferences are great resources for connecting with other passionate members of the sector and gaining practical insights into working with nonprofits. In NPM’s Expanding Nonprofit Education article, we wrote about the launch of the Nonprofit Learning Lab (NLL), which offers conferences like these. Though she began her professional life as an employment lawyer, she quickly transitioned into nonprofit work to become more personally involved in social justice.

Sheila Bravo began her professional life working in the for-profit business sector, but she now serves as the president and CEO of the Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement (DANA). Bravo brings the skills and knowledge she gained in prior work experience to assist nonprofits in the state of Delaware. “Our job is to help nonprofit boards and leadership to be more effective,” she says of DANA.
